Good call, if it smells bad, it probably is. There are plenty of Trucks out there, keep looking until you find a good one.

 

I have a 97 and the only place I have rust is bottom of tailgate where someone opened it onto snow, rocks, etc. and where you slide your foot when getting out of the truck. Not rust through but paint is missing and surface rust. I repaint it yearly

 

You can actually see overspray on the interior tan panel where they failed to not mask it off properly-if they don't care to do that right then imagine the care they put into the rest they had to do
