Cabin air filter, 2000 5.4 lariat. my maintenance guide says it needs to be replaced (if equipped) now, shop wants $40, i said NO, where is it at?? does it have one??

 

According to my service manual, unless it was dealer installed in 2000, yours doesn't have one. There was no factory cabin filter that year only dealer add on. I didn't look up 2001 up, but my 98 does not. The dealer installed one is directly under the center air outlet at the center hump. The front of the unit snaps down and then you install the filter. You can check and see if you have one. If you have buckets and a console that might be more of a challenge. I'd send a pdf link I have showing what I just wrote, but can't seem to upload it. That's what my 2000 Ford service manual says.

cabin air filter on these bodystyles was pretty much a cutom install at a dealer. as far as i know there was no cabin filters from the factory.

 

Most people that had one eventually took it out. It restricted air flow terribly
