Not if your engine burns or leaks oil! Synthetic always burns and/or leaks faster then conventional oil.

Question Oil dip stick on a 5.4 triton 3 V

I have a strang question just bought this t2004 Ford F-150 FX4 truck used and just did an oil change on it everything went well till I pulled out the dipstick and it looks like about 1/2 way down it was riveted together like it was in two pieces. Has anyone else have this on there truck and is that a normal dipstick for this vehicle or did someone do a repair on it. I also added 6 quarts of synthetic oil and it just shows up on the bottom not even close to full. I know it takes 7 quarts just want to be sure I don’t overfill the engine with oil if the dipstick isn’t reading correctly. I would appreciate and advice or information about this issue so I know if there is anything I need to do with it.
Thank you in advance fir any help.

I'd suggest you post this question to the '04-'08 section. It looks like you may have used the search function (good) to find this, but I (also) wouldn't revive a 5-year-old thread to ask a question that's only somewhat related to the original topic.

By the way, yes, the '04 5.4 takes 7 quarts with a filter change, so with only six, you're still one quart low.

And welcome to the folums. Lots of good info here.

Yea, but his stick is quite different, as he posts a 3V. The 2V's are full just below the top hash...around a 1/4" or a little less. Top hash is max or overfilled actually, but I think you know that.

Btw, -riveted sticks are normal and factory. So no worries there.

I wouldn't use synthetic (100% Syn) in anything used unless you know for a fact it was used in that engine since new. Or, - if you flushed and cleaned the block before switching to pure syn for that engine.

Otherwise, best you can do for that engine is to follow your owners manual.

What can and has occurred in the past. Switching to pure syn in an otherwise dirty engine can plug or partially plug the pick-up screen. It's the best you can run, but it also has exceptional cleaning abilities. Who knows, -you may have a jiffy lube engine...raised on ACME conventional koolaid. You may be alright, but it's unnecessary risk...one I wouldn't take not knowing a little history or providing a little prep before hand.

I appreciate everyone’s help it’s great to have so many people offer there opinion as far as the oil I did a lot of research and felt that the synthetic was a better choice after reading the responses I’m not sure but it’s already done. ’ll change it at 5000 km and watch it carefully for any issues as well. I’m hoping nothing comes out of it but the oil I took out was pure black looks like it haven’t been changed in quite awhile. It’s good to hear that’s the design of the dipstick just wasn’t sure if possibly someone broke it and riveted back together good to hear that’s the design by ford. Thanks again everyone for the information and advice it’s much appreciated.
