Default Dip stick showing no oil?

Hey guys the other day i was checking my oil and the dip stick had very little oil on it. But i opened the oil cap on top of the motor and there was a good bit of oil up in the heads and my oil pressure gauge is normal and it runs great and looks like theres no oil in the antifrezze and has never blown any weird colored exchaust and dipstick tube is not loose. I just wanna know why my dip stick is reading no oil. Thanks

Yea just put more in it... Your good just not enough in it. Won't burn your engine up or anything just don't drive it everywhere like that. Just make sure your not leaking any, then that would be a problem

Did you check it right after you shut it off? if so then you might be traping oil in the uper part of the engine do to partialy pluged oil return pasages. check it after the truck sits for a few hours if the oil is back up to level on the dipstick then you have a serious sludge problem. at the very least flush it out and change the oil again better yet pull the valve cover and clean it out and then replace the pcv valve and hoses. As for the oil gauge it only reads 0 or normal it does not tell you the pressure just that you have some about 6psi or higher

The truck sat for about 4 hours. Pulled a valve cover today and it looked pretty clean but do you think you can clean the pcv valve?

They can be cleaned but for the price of a new one why bother? also be sure to check , clean or replace the pcv hoses and while you have the valve covers off run a stiff wire down each of the drain holes in the head
