Default the damn light!

Hello everybody

A few months back I got my arm broke at work and my truck has mostly sat out front this summer. I've had to charge the battery a few times because it sat too long and went dead. The truck also blew a rear brake line about 3 weeks ago and while it was in the garage for that I also had new front pads installed. It wasn't drove much after that, maybe 50 miles, and then a week ago it blows a power steering hose and blows out all of the fluid and ruins the pump. I just got it out of the garage today for those repairs.
On the way home my service engine soon light was on. It wasn't on before this last repair. It ran fine but the light is on. My inspection sticker is due this month and that fuggin light needs to be out. How do I get the mf'n light to go out! I don't have any more money to spend on this truck the damn thing is over it's allowance big time already.

Spend 100 dollars and get a engine code reader, and find out the problem and why the light is on. And reset it if it's something that you can ignore until after the inspection. Or go to autozone or some place like that and get them to read / reset it for you.

You can buy an elm327 for $15 or a dedicated code reader for 30.

Otherwise like said above go get it scanned for free. Could be something as simple as your gas cap being loose.

update;

I let the truck sit last weekend because I didn't know if anything really was wrong with it even though it ran good. On Monday I called the garage and told them that the service engine soon light was on when I picked up the truck Friday and it had not been on when I put the truck in there for the power steering problem.
I explained that I could ignore the light but the truck was due for inspection and a lot of places won't pass them with that light being on. She said just bring it back.
I took it back and told them to inspect it while it was there. Later that day they called me back and said come get it, it's ready. I asked what do I owe, and she said $12.66.
I went and picked it up, paid her, and asked what had made the light come on, and she said that it was a wire connector that wasn't plugged in good.
Problem solved.
