Default Cutting off cats?

Recently got a super 44 installed and want a little more sound so I'm considering cutting some cats off. My question is how many can I do away with and still pass emissions? Also, I guess I just cut it off with plasma cutter or sawzaw and replace that portion with a 2.25 pipe? Should be pretty simple I would think but I don't have a lot of experience

If you live in a state with visual emissions inspection, which is most of them doing inspections...none.

I live in Michigan, where they don't inspect crap, so in this state you could cut them all off and use a programmer to turn off the rear O2 sensors.

The just plug a computer up under the dash and get some kinda read out. I hate the stupid emission thing. What do you guys think about cutting them off, replacing with pipe but using clamps instead of welding so I could just change it out at the time of inspection?

If they don't do a visual, just get a tuner to turn off the rear cats so it doesn't post a code and replace the cats with straight pipes. Using clamps would probably do what you want.

Just put high flows on the first set of cats and chop the second set off. These trucks were designed to have cats so unless your gonna get your computer reflashed to run without cats and o2 sensors just uses high flows you'll get the same amour of horse power.

Why not switch to a Super 10? The Super 44 and Super 10 are the same design except the Super 10 has only 1 chamber.

Cut all 4 off and get two new Dynomax hi flo pieces welded in, you'll still be legal, truck will run correctly and you'll gain more power and sound.

idk what you emission laws are. but i hollowed out two of my front cats and didnt have any problems with the check engine light. i just cut a hole in the side of the cat, hit it with a hammer and dumped out the honey comb. but if you want a good sound and you are worried about emissions, i would just straight pipe it. i ran just plain striaght pipe dual exhaust and it sounded great. i love the sound of these trucks straight piped. then i wanted a little more tone so i hollowed out the front two cats and i am more than happy with the sound and i lost no power at all or at least not enough to feel. hope this helps
