A7X knows a lot about rims and all the different measurements and such. Would suggest trying to ask him.

First and most important thing to look at is how wide your stock wheels are. depending on what wheels you have they are either 7.5 or 8" wide. (my fx4 wheels are 17x8") Next is the fact that your stock wheels probably have an offset of 0mm. this means that where the wheel and the hub meet is dead center in the middle of the wheel. 4" from the hub to the outside edge of the wheel, 4" to the inside edge of the wheel. So, when you look at wheels you first look at diameter, (16", 17", 18", etc.) then width. So if your stock wheels are 17x8" and you choose a wheel that is a 17x9" you've just gained 1/2". Then, provided your stock wheels have an offset of 0mm and your 17x9" wheel has an offset of -10mm, youve just gained another 3/8" or so. a negative offset means the point at which the hub meets the wheel is moved in towards the back edge of the wheel. a positive offset means it moves the other way. (positive offset=bad for this situation) So, if you upgrade from a 17x8" with an offset of 0mm to a 17x9" with an offset of -10mm, youve gained just shy of an inch.
