Exclamation Cruise control problem=scary

This morning on the way to work I set the cruise to 65mph. When I got to the next county the roads were bad (Wayne county the same county Detroit is in so you can imagine the roads) so I hit the brake to slow it down to 45-50. Then the damnedest thing happened the cruise was off and the truck started accelerating back to 65, was I surprised after all I don't own a Toyota. I had to pull off the next exit and fight the engine wanting to accelerate which is allot of fun on ice. I turned the truck off and back on and the rpms jumped. I popped the hood and tapped the cruise control servo incase it was stuck due to the cold, it was about 9 degrees. Then I noticed while the truck was off the TB was closed so the motor was not stuck, turned it back on same thing rpms jumped. I then disconnected the cable and went to work. I tried to look in my Haynes manual but they don't get into the system to much and say go to the dealer. My question is this; is there any relays that are not in the cab that could of got frozen closed because my cab was pretty warm when this happened? I tried the cruise on the way home and no problems but it was 22 degrees. has anybody ever had this problem? All help is appreciated!

So I called Ford to report the problem and check on recall. They said this problem has never been reported and there are no recalls for my truck (after running my VIN). There only answer was to go to the dealership at my expense... yeah right. I have since tried the cruise now that we are out of single digits and it has been working just fine. I just hope I don't get on here a week or month from now going " should of paid the dealer."

Check this site for recalls or to report your truck's problems.

Default Recalled CC Vehicle FIRES

Who ever you talked to at "FORD" is wrong. Over a million cruise controls were recalled. The thin membrane between the CC would fail and brake fluid would cause a short and fire. A guy here at my work two months ago watched his 99 F150 burn up in the parking lot. That cruise control unit is aways hot 12 volt even with the key out. Want a fire in your garage, or on the freeway? Get it replaced. The replacement part is $24 at Ford. Google the recall.

My memory is talking to me about a bulletin, not a recall, that pertained to my 02 concerning snow and ice at the throttle cable connection to the throttle body. I paid no attention to it as l lived is So. Ca. at the time. Just my memory making my jaws work.

My truck went weird today to. Speed limit was 45 and I had my cruise on, well the limit changed to 60. So I tapped it up 15 times....well my truck decides to downshift and guns the engine. I fly by everyone..it usually goes up to 2300 not 4 or 5k

if it happens again, shift the truck into neutral rather than fighting it with the break. something similar happened with my wife's old car... the gas pedal got stuck on an aftermarket floor mat though, cruise control was fine. I told her the same thing, she was trying to wrestle the car off the road and slow it down with the brake as well
