Default Cruise Control not working

The cruise control on my 2002 f150 supercrew 5.4 is not working. I don't know how long because i do not use it often. My brake light on my cab went out I guess. I was told if I fix the cab brake light then it will get the cruise control working again. Is this true?

does your ac and backup lights work? They are on the same fuse.

yes burned out chmsl will cause cruise to be inop. 10 seconds and 50 cents
should fix it up. besides that brake lamp is federally mandated so you might
as well fix it before the popo pops you for it

You can also Google cruising control self check for your truck and it should walk you through how to diagnose it. You can do it all in the driver seat.

Maybe the black leer cap was one of the causes?

the lear cap? usually when they are installed the brake light bulb on the back of
the cab is removed and the one in the topper, once wired in takes it's place. If
all brake lights work, I would look at the cruise control deactivation switch
mounted on the master cylinder. could be leaking, unplugged or the harness to it that was installed during a recall has a inline fuse that may be blown. assuming the recall was done.
