crank to power window upgrade question
Hey guys,
I have crank windows right now and my driver side window must have busted a gear or something because it is constantly slipping and wont crank properly (and it gets stuck in the winter because the crank cant take the pressure).
If I go to the local junkyard and find a 97-03 f150 that has power windows, would I be able to rig it up somehow where it would work in my f150?
Thanks for any help =)

I don't know about that... But I know that there are places like JC Whitney that offer power window upgrade kits. The only thing I don't like about them is every one I've seen uses GM still window switches... Though you could probably buy some ford switches correct for your year/model of truck and make them work. But I'd be willing to bet one or more of the people on here have better options for you.
It's been a while since I've priced them, I wanted to do it to my 87 F150 I used to have... But I think then it was about $150 for a 2 door kit. If it's still about the same price, it might be worth it just to avoid scrounging around a junk yard for hours hoping to find what you need...
I would just replace the crank window mechanism. Power windows especially Ford, are trouble and the regulator has to be replaced about every two or three years. I wish all of my vehicles had crank windows. I am getting sick of replacing the regulators on my Fords. I am a fresh air freak so unless it is really hot, I always put my windows down when I drive. You may have some issue with the window dragging somewhere in the channel or lack of lubrication in the crank mechanism since the crank windows usually last a lifetime.
I went and got a crank from the junk yard today. I think you are right, not worth the hassle of replacing regulators all the time. Cost me 20 bucks and about an hour for removal and install.
Thanks for the help everyone
