Default Covered CAI

I have a 2002 5.4L and i'm looking to add a little bit more power and MPGs. Plus make it sound a bit better and so ive decided on investing into a CAI. One problem: I dont want an open filter because i have been under puddles when i get out n play in the mud. I want a fully enclosed box. Ive read forums and heard K&N 77 is the best and whatever. What are the reviews on volant, s&b, etc. with an enclosed air box? Pics would be appreciated also. Thanks

Who told you K&N was best? Look up the Gotts mod and use the what the factory has already given you.

Just reading forums everyone loves the K&N 77. Ive been considering the Gotts mod just dont know if its what i want yet. Anyone else have it and seen improvements in MPG? throttle response? HP?

MPG's vary so greatly any response you get regarding that area is null. I can get you dyno numbers from a newer motor with the Gotts if you like. It's proven.

Not necessary but i take your word for it. And would something like a K&N filter in place of the stock one be beneficial with the gotts mod?

Not really unless you want to sacrifice some filtration efficiency for .5 hp gain at 5000 rpms.

I have the 77 series kn and i luv it! Def felt a power gain with it, not really any extra mpg maybe .5-1 but i would of got the volant cai with the inclosed box if i could but i live in CA and that model is illegal here( idk why i think thats really gay). Your not gonna feel a difference between the two but i just like the idea that no dirt can get in with the enclosed box and that it also plugs into the stock intake-to-fender hole to get the cold air from the fender rather than the hot engine bay air

well on my truck i took the pipe that was in my fender out and put a k&n air filter and i think truck runs way better than having it pull air from fender

The whole reason that pipe was there going into the fender is so it sucked in cold air. Now since you removed that its sucking in hot air from the motor

Air under the hood is so close to the same temp as ambient when driving that its a moot point guys... If you don't believe me, monitor your IAT's while driving with scanner, I've done it with many different intake types and never seen more than a 3-5* temp change.

I use the Gotts mod with a K&N drop in filter and love it. Cheap and effective.
