Yea, good point. Thanks for the assistance white.

It was a 2 day adventure that pushed me to the point of taking it to someone .

I usually persevere, but glad I didn't this time.

Nope, no how to. I've always done it the full proof way. Raise the front end, remove the wheels in the back, lower the rear then refill. That 98 was very stubborn about air pockets. There's other ways to do it, like say disconnecting one of the core lines AFTER filling through the T-stat housing. It's just quicker lowering the rear if you have air tools.

If your on city water, you initially flush with that leaving the drain open water running into degas bottle (expansion tank) with the engine running to flush. When flushing this way , keep the tank overflowing w/water and just let it run at operating temp, 30 minutes if need be. Yea, not need to drive the vehicle when flushing multiple times. Just keep a water feeding and draining until clear in place. Once cleaned up, then use your distilled.

BTW- most these blocks only have one block drain on the drivers side, there isn't one on the passenger side...doesn't exist for the majority. I say majority because some have reported two drains...one on each side. I've never seen two myself, -just the one.
