Confused!
I was browsing around on YouTube and came across this video of a guy in his f150 with the edge programmer. He was saying that it's not good to run the programmer with a CAI and exhaust. Is this true? I've got all three and haven't had a problem. One of the comments says it causes the engine to run lean. If I can find the video again I'll post it when I'm off work
The only consistent thing i've heard about those programmers on gassers/150's is when you run it on the more performance settings you have to run a higher octane fuel. Which...maybe could result in the running lean. Combo that with a performance exhaust and cai could push that point a little further. But honestly i've seen so many different experiences with those its hard to tell. One guy will run it on the top setting, with 87 gas and have no problems. Another will say the truck barely runs without better gas. I don't know if thats at all relevant but the only thing i could think of
I will shed some light on this subject. On our generation trucks this is not a problem as the Edge will cause these trucks to run rich under any throttle conditions. The trucks that this really effects are those that are equipped with a 3v modular. I have data logged my previous setup before I had wrote a custom profile. Need less to say dont worry about it.
The Edge has canned tunes which are written for stock parameters. Exhaust modifications that are cat back do not need custom tuning. When you modify the cats and change the flow past the front O2 sensors, then custom tunes are needed. On the intake side, while you can run the canned Edge tunes with the 2 valves, to get the full benefit of the intake custom tunes are preferred. It's not inherently bad, but I always recommend custom tunes to take advantage of things. The 04-08 3 valves it is "bad" to run a canned tune. Mike Troyer saw a 19:1 a/f on a canned tune and CAI on a 3 valve, not good.
