Conflicting Information
I was looking online as to the cylinder numbers on my 98 F150 5.4L and I have come across 2 sets of information that conflict with each other. I was hoping that you guys could set me straight. At the auto parts stores around here they say this is the way the cylinders are numbered:
7 8
5 6
3 4
1 2
Some websites I have visited say that it is actually:
4 8
3 7
2 6
1 5
Which is it? I am confused. Some of the sites speak in terms of spark plug numbers and some in terms of COP numbers. I assume that the numbering system for the COP and the plugs are the same but then again from all the conflicting information I am too confused to tell.

Most likely it's the second one at least I know that is the cylinder layout for a 4.6. Umm if you still have the OEM Coils a diagram of the cylinder numbers should be displayed because the coils show which wire is going to which numbered cylinder.
Actually Chevrolet is the other way again. Their #1 is on the left side, #2 is on the right. The second firing order is correct for Fords, with #1 being the front right side (passenger side) and #5 is the front on the left.
