My dad put a 97 tranny in his 03. He's retired and on a tight budget and doesn't have the transmission controller from the donor vehicle. What can he do to get the tranny shifting right?

Have you checked local salvage yards for a donor? I realize electronics are more expensive than other replacement parts, but might be something to look into.

I am currently working on doing this exact thing. I have the Ltransmission and need to convert it to 4 wheel drive and get all the extras that you mentioned in your post which I find very helpful. if you have any other additions or help for me that would be great. I am dropping in a low mile supercharged 5.4 into my 2003 f-150 4x4 which has a 5.4 but has the smaller tranny. I have both pickups in my possesion

I will definitely use this! I'm trying to do a lightning swap in California on a 98 f150 4.6 4x4. For it to be smog legal I have to use the 4r100 and get rid of the 4r70w.

My 4.6 PCM will control my 4r70w BUT not the lightning engine. Unless I do like a piggyback Diablo sport tune. But at that point it's illegal. The inspectors will see the piggyback deal on the PCM and fail me.

SO I NEED to run the lightning PCM. And I can't do that with my 4r70w. So I have to do the 4r100 swap to use the Lightning PCM so it passes the referee visual AND smog inspections.

Any pointers on how to get my 4x4 to work with my setup?

I'm so thankful for this thread! Thank you to the guy that wrote this up.

FYI this is for 99-03 trucks. Everything is more plug an play. 97-98 are a different animal.

You don't need an L pcm to control the 4r100. Many stand alone controllers work, navigator pcms and some expys. Just need a tune. The stand alone need no tune, just wiring up the controller.
