Code P0301
I got a 1997 f150 with the 4.6. It's got a cylinder 1 misfire. It doesn't have vacuum leaks and the spark plug isn't the issue nor is the plug wire. However, as it's running, I did unplug the fuel injector for cylinder 1 and literally nothing changed. Thought that was odd. If I unplugged cylinder 2's it got worse. Other than that, the only other code is like an o2 sensor code, but obviously it's setting it off because of the misfire. I'm thinking if the injector isn't the issue, more than likely that cylinder is having mechanical issues. Any thoughts?
I figured. I'm fixing to check the injector for resistance to see if it's working at all, and if not I may attempt to try to clean with injector cleaner or seafoam in case it's not getting a full pulse then if not, oh well. Lol run the engine until it yees its last haw then and then put a new one in.
LOL. So you checked spark on #1 the old fashion way ? Keep in mind #1 is furthest from the FP. Well, the first thing you might do is swap injectors, like say #1 with #5 since those are right up front. That should confirm an injector issue which is rarely the case...it's possible tho. I'd try that first to see if the misfire dtc changes to #5.
If you find there's no compression in 1, you could of lost a follower, it happens, but it's a fairly simple fix.
How many yee-haw miles on that engine ? I assume you using motorcraft plugs since that's pretty much all they run good on. Autolites are the absolute worst or close to it. Did you catch the O2 code by chance ?

He means the piston is toast by "follower" idk about compression on the cylinder but I'm fixing to check I'm just a soldier who lives in the barracks so my resources are sort of limited but the culprit is getting more narrow as I go. If those things check out ok i think that cylinder has yeed its last haw. Trucks got 217k on it, but ive had trucks over that, that didn't do this. I'm sure some turd down the line of owners didn't take care of it and that's why it's doing this now. I just bought it the other day for 1500 as a fixer upper. I plan to turn it from junk to something better. It's in fairly good shape it just has this issue and the 4x4 isn't working apparently because someone put the wrong body control unit on it. But other than that its decent.
Quick update. The injector checked out. It was 14.8 ohms so it's obviously working. There was no vacuum leaks, and I checked the plug wire for spark the old way. I can't tell if its getting proper spark, but it's getting something. As I took it off and picked it up, it tried arking off the air intake housing. I laid it down away from metal and I didn't see anything inside the boot. I guess that checked out. So unless the injector is clogged, (unlikely) sounds like we gotta dead cylinder.
