Default CNG Conversion

I have a 2001 F150 7700 that has a factory Bi-fuel (CNG &Gasoline), vin code Z. I like the truck alot EXCEPT it is 2WD. I am considering purchasing a 2006 F150 with the same size engine that has 4WD. I would like to transfer the CNG from my 2001 over to the 2006, (along with purchasing a new pressure tank).

My question is about software for the Vehicle Control Module! On the factory installed system, it appears that the PCM communicates with the COMPUVALVE MODULE. Is there any software or program chip that would need to be updated on the 2006 in order to change it over to BI-FUEL/CNG. BTW I have an OTC Nemesis scanner system.

IIRC the CNG prepped vehicles have different valve seats and compression ratios.

Thanks so much for your input! I did know about the hardened valves but did not know that Ford changed the compression ratio.

I have talked to a few other Bi-fuel owners and they all complain about an engine miss when the outside temp drops below 20 deg F. It is a hesitation that occurs every minute or so. This does not happen when on gasoline, therefore it isnt a timing problem. I do not believe that Ford has done fuel stoichiometric ratio calculation correctly for CNG gas at low temperatures. Therefore I have my doubts that they did their compression ratio calcs for CNG correctly either.

So in summary, yes hardened valves may need replacing, but I dont know if compression ratio is a valid concern. BTW when you purchase an add-on CNG package, the do not change compression ratio. I still need to know about PCM programming.

I have 2003 F150 w/7700 pkg, 5.4 bi-fuel I bought from the US Navy in Norfolk, VA. Absolutely no problems for the last 9 years. I normally run it on CNG. I did not run it on gasoline and recently found out it no longer runs on gasoline. It acts like it just isn't getting any fuel. Checked for a fuel Pump Drive Module above the spare tire, but all I found was a long canister mounted above the crossmember. If I replace the fuel pump in the gas tank, that means I will have to remove the CNG tank as well, The gas tank is completely full of gasoline that is at least a year old. I am debating between taking off the bed and just cutting a hole in the bed, as it will be covered up by the CNG tank and cover after I am done.

Suggestions? Comments? Sarcastic remarks?

Measure fuel pressure? At least poke the Schrader valve and see if it squirts.

Our GEN 10's don't have a driver module above the spare. That is a GEN 11 and newer thing.
