Default Clutch problems

97 F150 4.6L 2WD man tranny. 160K miles. I have owned it for 13 years, only major repairs have been alternator, radiator, thermostat, and breaks. routine services.

went to start truck yesterday, push clutch and it doesn't engage (give resistance) until it is about an inch from the floor. Release pedal and it pops back up on its own. No fluid leaks, cylinder is full. It will go into all gears but kinda tricky to drive with so little clutch.

I have never done any work on clutches or trannys before. I have read several clutch posts on here but none quite fit what mine is doing.
Any ideas out there, before i go blow several hundred dollars at a garage?

It's the slave cylinder happend to me quite a few times.. when u replace it don't get one from none of the cheap autoparts stores bend over and buy Ford replacement motorcraft because I put 3 of those cheap things in they last. like 2-3 years so if u plan on keeping the truck long go motorcraft....plus u have to pull the tranny and u don't wanna do that more than once

You have to pull the transmission to change the slave cylinder. It's a bitch of a job. You might want to go ahead and put a new clutch in there if it shows signifigant wear. Oh, and change your rear main seal. Strongly recommend a transmission jack.
