Default Clunk when accelerating from coasting

Bought a 2002 F150 XLT 4WD truck a few weeks ago and I've been getting to know it, deciding what needs to be done to bring it up to tip top shape. I've noticed that when I'm coasting with my foot off the pedal about 25 mph and I press the accelerator down about half way, I feel and hear a light clunk coming from under my feet (presumably from transmission?) before the gear catches. Anyway, does anyone know what this might be? Hoping it's not the transmission but it does have 190k and the previous owner towed a lot I think

PS: so far no other shifting issues, although when repair shop did trans service they found a few small metal chunks :/

Thanks friends

You'll want to pull the driveshaft out so you can manipulate the joints by hand to feel if they are grinding or binding or have a lot of slop in them. Check this video for tips:

Mine has done what you're describing for the last 30,000 miles. I also drive a 2011 silverado regularly that does the same thing, with only 40,000 miles. It's audible and am able to feel it when it occurs. Typically when slowing down for a red light that then turns green. I would not worry about it at this time.

thanks for your message, yes I've definitely noticed it when it's a red light and it turns green and I'm coasting up and accelerate. I'm glad to hear that it's not that big of a deal. Thanks again for posting this
