Default Clunk from rear on stop and start

When I take off, I get a clunk from the rear.
When I stop, I get a clunk from the rear.

It's not the slip yoke or transmission mount. The clunk comes from further back, sounds like it's coming from above the rear axle general area.

What other places should I inspect?

Brakes, shocks, spring mounts. Those would be my first thoughts after checking the pinion and u-joints for noise.

I'd be siding on u-joints. I still have to change mine out.

Never thought of the first three. Now I feel like an idiot.

Meh, frustration like this makes the brain not work so good sometimes. Lol. I was just thinking about bushings/sleeves making noise from being worn out of round. Or possibly a brake pad/shoe trying to separate. The one I would check first is the pinion noise, although if it's a clunk, I doubt it's the pinion.

I dropped the driveshaft and checked it over, then greased it up and reinstalled, but no change.
I'll have to check the brakes. My e brake doesn't work, so maybe that's related. I never use the e brake in automatic vehicles, so I've not bothered to fix it.

You mean the "parking brake"? Lol. I hardly use mine, unless I'm on an incline. I've seen what happens when the Parking pin breaks. It's not pretty. And if the cable still goes back there, it very well could be your parking brake system.

Lol yep! I guess I do use them on steep banks so the transmission doesn't fall out when I put it in gear. Haven't had that problem in the truck though, lol.
