One guy got a non-chip key to work. He use a SCT tuner(see 'the everything thread'). He said it had to be done by a shop though. Oh btw if ur buying a spare get it at home depot. It's cheaper(cost $75 for a chipped key at homedepot)

You can do a non chip key if you put a coffin box in your dash, or if you already have 2 pats keys you can do what I did.

You can buy a transponder blank off of ebay, take it to a hardware store (small mom and pop one, Lowes Etc won't cut your blank) and have them cut it.

Then take it and your two old keys out to the truck, put one old key in, turn it to run, turn it off, take it out, put in the second old key in, turn it to run, turn it off, take it out, put in the new key, turn it to run, turn it off, take it out. Then the new key should work. I'm using a copy like that for my day to day key now and my originals remain safely at home. Oh and it cost about $8 total to buy the blank and have it cut.

my 08 came with only 1 key (requiring a dealer visit to get more cut).

had 3 non-chip keys made at home depot for $2 each. zip tied the chip key inside the steering column cowling by the ignition

works like a charm.
