Check Engine light
Hi,
I have a 2002 Super crew. The check engine light came on and I had the code read at a local Auto Zone. They told me I had a misfire in cylinder 3. I replaced the plugs and cylinder three plug was loose and plug was rusty as if some water had leaked in. The engine purred like a kitten after plugs were changed. Light went off after plugs were changed and then came back on after a couple of weeks. When I took it back to Auto Zone they are not getting a reading at all. It's as if there is no power at the outlet at all. Truck is still running great. Is there a fuse for this outlet? What could be the cause of not having any power there? Any help would be appreciated....thanks.

If the light is on the pcm sees a problem. The obdII port is self powered and they shouldn't need to connect the scanner to an outside power source. Checking the fuses is a good idea, but I'm not so sure that's your problem as I think the power is from the pcm itself. Don't quote me on that as it's been a few years since I ran across that problem and I don't remember. If there's no communication with the pcm that's also a real issue. Most likely I'd say they didn't know what they're doing or their scanner isn't working. It's common that the pins get jacked up. They use the tool a lot and they're not mechanics.
One last thing, it's also possible that from the rusty plug and all the misfiring that the coil went south finally.
