Default CD player swap

My son gave me is 6 Cd player from his 2003 Escape. Mine single CD player is belly up and won't recognize disc or says bad disc. We plugged in his 6 Changer (plugs looked the same and his reads full and won't let us add or remove CDS. Any help is appreciated. Is the wiring different and plugs the same?

If the radio powers up. Most likely the plug is the same. The CD functions will all be built into the radio. I know the 6 disc in dash radio liked to lockup by installing two discs in one slot. If that happens it won't eject or take a CD. I know the radio says scrap if dropped. Might have an internal problem with the radio.

Is your 6 disc internal to the radio or is it an aux unit? I know the later Escapes (2008 up) have a 6 disc built in, but I don't believe yours does. Am I correct?

If it is a basic single disc player, it is not set up internally to read a remote 6 disc changer. There is a premium single disc also, that has all the required plug ins on the back. If you have this one, then it needs to be reprogrammed to accept the 6disc, if it's remote. I learned this when I was researching how to add steering wheel controls to my 07 Mustang using the 2012 Boss steering wheel. I added a factory navigation head from an 08 Taurus, so the wiring had to be set up for the 07 Mustang. Ford radios are only programmed as necessary. Since your's never had the set up, your radio won't read the remote changer. You need the radio ACM either reprogrammed, or the head itself replaced with a head that accepts the remote changer.

If you need any radio info, and I can help, feel free to PM with questions. I've got quite a selection of manuals and pdf's on Ford units. Your radio has the 2 flat plugs that go on the d/s on the back, correct? How many other plug in ports do you have?

Just buy an FM Modulator so you can use a USB, Ipad or Smart Phone to play the music.
