Default Catback exhaust

Im sure this has been beaten to death but I couldnt find exactly the answer I was looking for. I have a 00 f150, and the exhaust is developing some major rust and holes. Ive started looking into a cheap replacement. Im not looking for performance gains or even a crazy rumble. Just something to quickly throw in place of the stock system. I just came across this from summit racing http://www.summitracing.com/parts/su...Reviews=Newest and while its probably not the best especially considering it aluminized it probably wouldnt last long through these NY winters. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this system and what your thoughts are. Thanks.

I bought a full cat back summit exhaust for like $150-$200. Came with everything needed, was cheap, and aluminized

How was the sound? Was it raspy or tin canny? I dont expect magnaflow quality, but dont want to be miserable either. Did it bolt right up?

It was really quiet, like just a tick over the stock system with a quiet deep note

Aftermarket exhaust is good for a couple of winters, tops. I bought my own stainless piping, took it to the exhaust shop and had them bend it to fit making my truck's exhaust fully stainless, true duals. It cost me about $700 after it was all said and done but it's better to spend $700 then $400 or so every couple of winters if you're planning on keeping the truck.

I put the JBA exhaust on a few weeks ago. Its the stainless model that exits ahead of the rear wheel. Found a discount code for Autoanything and got it for $305 shipped. Cost me $100 to get it put on at a shop around the corner from my house. Sounds fantastic, no drone, quiet on the highway unless I get in it, and I picked up a consistent 2mpg on the highway. I'm in N. NJ and they throw a lot of salt down during the winter, and I frankly didn't want to mess with an aluminized exhaust rotting out after 4 or 5 years. I think you said you're in upstate NY, and if I'm not mistaken a lot ice-melt/brining solution is sprayed up there. If its anything like the evil (but effective-melts everything, including your car) **** they use in the midwest it'll eat an aluminized exhaust up in short order. I'd just as soon spend $400 once and be done, instead of a little less (but pretty damn close) every few years.

I just looked at your link for the Summit kit, and I had a similar one on my '89 4.9 six. I think it was made for them by Dynomax (Walker), and it was decent, and woke the truck up a bit. I put it on myself so I think I kept the damage to a little less than $200. Lasted about 4 years and change before the pipes were rotten. I was running up from here to Canisteo, NY a lot at the time, as my parents were living out there. I'd probably have gotten more years out of it were I not in all of that snow, salt and slush so frequently. Hopefully that give some perspective on the aluminized stuff.
