Angry Cargo Third Light

I sure hope someone can give me some good insight. I have a 97 F150 ext cab 4x4...I ordered a new Cargo third light to replace the old one. I just bought this truck from someone by the way..anyway..I got the new light, started to unhook the old one. Took the two screws out pulled the plastic plug out of the hole and that's it! the wire harness won't come out to disconnect it!! How the heck does it get changed out? Do I have to take out the headliner to do this? And if so, does anyone know how to do that? This is my first truck and I'm VERY clueless..I hope someone can help! Thank You so much....signed ...me

Take out both screws, pull light out a bit, turn the 3 bulbs and pull the bulbs out of the light housing

Yes the headliner needs to come out..... Mine was a supercrew so it was fairly easy. Just take out any plastic that touches the headliner and those hook things that you would hang close on.... Some times there may be a screw were the lights are too...... Good luck..... It ant that bad.

Wait. Stop. Do not remove your headliner. The third brake light/cargo light is easily replaceable. Take the two screws holding the housing onto the truck. Pull the housing out and one by one twist the bulb sockets counterclockwise and pull the bulb socket with bulb out. Reinstall the sockets into your new housing.....If you bought one that does not have the same size/shape sockets then its a matter of cutting, soldering and shrink wrapping the wires to the new ones (I assume some came with). When you reinstall the housing onto the truck do NOT overtighten the screws or the housing will end up cracked. Trust me, I know.
