Default Cannibalization, can I do this?

I have a '98 F150 XLT, 5.4 with 257K miles on it, it runs great, but needs a few things for it to continue, including a wire harness according to the dealer. Amongst other things, a new a/c compressor, window motor, tires etc. I have in my sights a '98 F150 XLT 4.6 with 53k miles, that was in an accident.

I asked one dealer they said the harness can be interchanged, however, I would like to know for sure.

Do I need to post VIN's or its not necessary, just purchase the wrecked vehicle and save some $, on parts.

THANKS in advance.

Mine is a 3 door, the one I want to buy is a 2 door, shorter bed. My rear lights are not working and the dealer said it was the wireing harness....

No one can help?

Give it a little time, eventually someone that knows will see your thread and post a response. We are not all on the board 24/7.

Front end damage, hit a tree, enough to launch the airbag. I would say the front end was pushed in a good foot to foot and a 1/2.

I might get the wrecked one for parts, but were you told that you need the ENTIRE (I'm assuming main) harness? Wow. I would not go through the hassle of pulling the old harness from the junker, then pulling and replacing the harness on the driver. What does an OEM or aftermarket harness cost? Is that worth the time and effort required to pull one off a junker? Then, you have to ASSUME that the junker's harness is good to go.

Even if they were a perfect match, I would not be looking forward to that swap. If you pull (or trace) the old harness, could you not just repair the problem?

If the dealer told you the parts could be interchanged, then they are probably looking at the same stock ## for both.
