Can I use 85w-140 instead of 75w-140 in my 10.25 rear end on my 2003 f150 (7700)

You could put water in it if you really wanted to.

You know what is the right stuff, why even ask?

Ford gives recommendations for a reason. If you use different than that, there is always potential risk.

I was just asking because I don't know what the difference is between 75w and 85w.


As for using water should I use hot water or cold water? Oh also bottled or tap?

I only use Fiji bottled water in my truck. It's heat transfer properties are unrivaled compared to that of aquafina bottled water.

First number is cold viscosity. So the 85W will be a little thicker until it warms up.

I am with tackle on them recommending the certain on for a reason, however, people use trucks for different reasons in different climates with different ratios.

I honestly dont think it would hurt a thing with friction modifier. But why not just get the 75 and worry less. Whats your climate like?
