What is the exact code on the CEL? As for the slow response on the oil you could have a gummed up oil passage going to the sending unit. What was wrong with the lifters?

im not sure what the code was, the guy said the cam sensor was bad. the lifters where bleeding off and knocked at start up. they they still knock at start up till the oil pressure comes up.

1998 4.2L, how many miles? Have you done a oil pressure reading with a direct gauge? If bottom end is worn out or if the pump pick up tube is sludged up, (not an insult) all engines will knock or rattle on initial start up. I like torkum's question, why did they replace the lifters? Could have been some bad advice there, sorry!
