Default A/C Problems

I have a 2001 sport 4x4 with a 4.6. When i put the A/C on in the truck the compressor does not engage. I was wondering if it could be anything else besides having to replace the compressor. Any ideas guys?
Thanks

there should also be a relay that tells the compressor when to kick on it is under the hood pull the lid off the fuse block under the hood and check that relay if it is still good then my guess would be bad compressor

Check for power and ground at connector to compressor clutch, if satisified, then replace the clutch.

Check what everyone else says, to know if your ac compressor is any good check the cluth if there pressure when turning it it should be good, if it spins easily or freely its done and you need a new one.

i know this might sound like a stupid question but do you know if its charged up? I've run across this before doing some little jobs for others.

You get a recharge kit with a fill meter that tells you how much is in it and how much is going in.

97 is right, low on freon prevents clutch from engaging, need to bypass cycling switch to engage clutch.
