C.E.L and new muffler problem
yeah check all vacuum lines, pcv hoses etc. also could be intake gaskets leaking, try spraying brake clean or carb cleaner around intake area to see if idle changes, that'll let you know what's leaking. ford lean codes (171/174) can be a pain in the *** to find sometimes, let me know if you need more help, and good luck!!
If you can't find any vacuum hoses leaking, then it could be your intake manifold gaskets leaking, there is actually a Ford TSB (technical service bulletin) on the issue, I forget off the top of my head which engines/years it affects but leaking intake gaskets are a common problem as well.
If you want, you can try cleaning the mass air flow sensor with the spray they sell at autozone/pepboys and clear the codes to see if they come back. I'd recommend disconnecting the battery for 15-20 minutes to reset the fuel maps as well (Ford says that just unhooking the battery for less time then that, or just clearing the codes with a code reader, won't reset the fuel maps, you have to unhook it for 15-20 minutes). Good luck!
