Default Budget CAI Systems

Hi people, I think I will have some extra cash this month and I would like to spend it on something for my truck('97 4.6). I was thinking of getting a CAI system. I'm looking for any information on low cost CAI systems.

I've just started my search but came across this, http://4caroption.com/product.php?pid=1682

The total cost with shipping is $112. Does anyone have one of these?

Why do you want a CAI?

Save your money for tuner and custom tunes and do the Gotts mod.

Awesome, thank you! I will try the Gotts mod instead and save up for a tuner. I had no idea there was such a mod. Thanks again!

If your interested, while doing the Gotts mod, do the silencer mod too, I did both at one, and there was definitely a noticeable difference.

I did my gotts mod a little different than most people though, instead of using PVC, I cut up a large bottle of brake fluid, and used that for tubing.

Did you have to sand down the tubing you made from the bottle of brake fluid or was it a perfect fit? I'll think about doing the silencer mod. Does the silencer in a 4.6 pop out or does it need to be unglued? I will defenitly be doing the gotts mod this weekend.

It was a bit of a pain to do the silencer mod, heres a thread that details how to do it:

https://www.f150forum.com/f33/how-re...silencer-9830/

As for the brake fluid can, I had to make a short cut lengthwise in the tubing so I could make it a little smaller to fit in the air cleaner housing, but with a little work I got the other end into the fender with no cutting.

Sanding wont due much with the brake fluid can, its already so thin that there isn't much to sand away.

I used some black tape to seal the air cleaner housing and the tube together so it didn't suck in any warm air from the engine compartment.

Hope this helps!
