Default bright lights

Any body know if there is a way to reverse the position of reg. and brights on the blinker control? Reg is so close to the steering wheel that my big hands hit it every time I turn a corner. Seldom use the brights so I would be happier with the positions reversed.

No ideas? Anything with the wiring? Maybe something with the plugs at the bulbs. I just want low beam from the headlights when blinker arm is further away from the steering wheel.

Hi.

Well Larry - the first ghetto solution that comes to mind is reversing the low and highbeam wiring right at the bulb connectors.

Problems with this are:

- the highbeam indicator will be illuminated in the new 'lowbeam' position.

- flash-to-pass will be boogered

- possibility of other electrical gremlins (see below - the Law of Unintended Consequences )

Best to get a detailed schematic for yer truck and ponder the alternatives. You'll quickly see that the lows are controlled by the main headlamp switch, while the highs are controlled via the MFS.

BTW - you'll want to do this with the intent of making it reversible - for future resale.

Lastly, Larry - please remember that some folks have a life outside of this forum - give 'em some time to respond with free advice. Could be several days at times. Okay?

good luck

Thanks for your reply. Glad it was free. Maybe someone will actually know how to make this work and will respond. Sorry if I seem impatient. Have a good day.

MGD has it spot on. Why not switch the high beam power wire with the low beam on the plug harness itself? Reverse able, but the HB indicator will be on when you turn your low beams on. And you won't be able to use your fog lamps on low beams; if you have them. Here is an image of a 9007 bulb's prongs. It'll tell you which one to swap.

Thanks. I figured that was the way to do it, just hoping for a way to make everything work. You never know if you don't ask. Will high beam indicator being on with low beam affect inspection?

It may - depending upon yer region's specific inspection policies.

There is. The initial suggestions were just a 'quick fix'.

With some more effort and little expense, one can indeed completely reverse the logic of the MFS, etc with just a few components. Everything will work. Everything reversible.

However, according to you in yer completely uncalled-for initial response, (after I was genuinely civil and genuinely tried to help, and only stated the truth), I apparently don't know how to do this.

Hmmm. I reckon the schematic I just altered to accomplish all of that I'm now looking at must be a figment of my imagination. Could not possibly have been my doing. Into the woodstove it goes ( impatient today ) ... probably too much coffee.

Helluva start, Larry. I'm sure yer unique, engaging way of trying to acquire help will go a long way here...

Have a good day.
