Without looking at your long term fuel trim numbers, it's kind of guess work. Most common is a vacuum leak though. Your symptoms are also indicative of a vacuum leak.

so just with a quick look the PCV looks like it’s on the newer side, rattles when I shake it, and don’t see any cracks to plain sight. But I’m about to buy a can of starter fluid and see if I can find any other locations for a leak

Yep, Raybz is on the right track here.

And yeah... that exhaust hole is rather significant.

hey squad. So the PCV looks pretty solid. I shot a text to my brother in law I think he replaced it with the intake manifold.

The PCV elbow tends to leak in the back as well , by the firewall, -

Some of these trucks have a set up that's a little different back there, but still leak at that connection all the same.

ok I’ll have to do some digging tonight to find a layout it’s all tucked back in there hard to see from a driveway and flashlight.

so I noticed on the other side of the engine from the PCV valve another boot coming off the valve cover that does seem to have a crack in it. Unsure of what it is at the moment tho.

That elbow may be leaking... on the 4.6 it ends up going into the intake tube by the throttle body. I know the 5.4 is a little different though. Brew would know the 5.4 better than I would, so I'm sure he can give you some insight there,

Yea, that's the breather side. The elbow should be replaced. You should be able to find those at third party shops in the help section.

I'm not sure that would cause a loopy idle, unmetered air leak yes.
