i have a bone stock 97 ext.cab i am new to this as i am still young but I WANT to learn everything that i can and the reason im making this post is because i would like to get the best performance out of my truck that i can as in more speed , more hp , more torque ect ect like i said im new to all of this so id like to know as much info as i can so the more details the better ... please and thank you ... any help is greatly appreciated

More speed and horsepower, you need a supercharger then for real numbers

I'd suggest starting with a programmer, one you can custom tune ignition, injection, shift points and stiffness. You'll probably do the most learning per dollar with that, and extract a tenth more power.

Intakes and exhaust look and sound cool, but educate yourself before you buy. You'll probably not gain power throughout the whole rev range.

Superchargers are the way to go for serious takeoff. If you're willing to spend the time and money there's nothing about the motor you can't change, i.e. compression, valve timing, fuel type, et cetera.

On my 2000 4.6 I've done

Gotts mod
Removed silencer
Shortie headers
Straight piped after the cats
Edge programmer
And that's about it

And my 2000 4.6 will out run my stock 97 5.4

yeah pretty much what you said surrey boy i dont really have a desired use for it i just want my truck to be faster then it is and have more hp ..i want to learn anything i can about performance
