Default blend door, found another problem

Started the process to change the blend door. Trying to remove the actuator, ran into an issue. Can't get the plastic venting out from under the actuator. None of the videos I've watched show the plastic in front of the piece I need to remove. It goes under the carpet, maybe to rear vents.
Do I need to pull the carpet? I've already torn it by trying to pull it back, don't want to tear any further.
Thanks

Mine already had 2 cuts in it. I rolled it back to gain access. I also removed the brace that is on that passenger side..... two 10mm nuts or bolts, IIRC.

How far back do I need to pull the carpet? That plastic piece feels like it goes to the seat

Also, what exactly is that piece? Is it for air to the back? Can I just cut it out?

I looked some more. That duct goes under the seats to supply air to the back seat floor. I guess I'll just cut it and block the vent off.
