Default Better towing

I have a 2001 f150 4.6 supercrew 2wd, and it has a 8.8. I want to be able to tow more comfortably what are some ways to do that? Now that being said Im not trying to haul the world around just my 65 coronet.

Put smaller wheels/tires on the back. Will make ratio better for towing. Cheaper than a new gears. By how much, I do not know, but it could be calculated.

If OP has 16s on his truck, I don’t believe he’s going to be able to go smaller without grinding down calipers. After buying a pair of wheels and likely needing new tires, gears may be the better get.

That aside, Force = Mass x Acceleration.

Either get a heavier truck or more engine.

If it’s acceleration, turning off overdrive would be a better deal than gears. It makes our company SCLB 4.6 tolerable to drive.

I was in the exact same boat once upon a time. I spent a lot on all kinds of upgrades for that purpose along the way. They all helped. But, hands down, no conversation, no debate, nothing to think about…the one that truly mattered was gears. Went from 3.55 to 4.10 and it transformed my truck across the board.
