Belt Dressing
2000 F-150 4.6L V6
So a couple nights ago my truck made a little squeak but stopped so today my buddy came over and said "hey I got this can of belt dressing here use it" so like a dummy I did and now my truck is squeaking and squealing something awful! So anyone tell me the solution should I just get a new belt now or will it eventually stop? Maybe my dumb***** got some on the pulleys who knows I regret it now.. any advice would he helpful!

Serpentine belts with an auto tensioner will never need belt dressing. That's not your squeak. When you're replacing the old belt, spin everything.... you probably have a bearing going south on an idler pulley or something. My idler squeals in the cold for about a minute, then shuts up. I have a new one.... just been lazy.
I remember my belt had an occasional chirping/squeak at various speeds. Everything was spinning fine so I changed the belt, same problem, went on for months. Then about a block from my house my harmonic balancer flew apart. Manhandled the truck home with no power steering….changed the balancer. Never chirped or squeaked again. If all else is good have a look at the balancer. The rubber deteriorates and can cause a squeak or chirping.
