I bought a full set of BullyDog's that insert into the bed rail pockets. They won't pull out for nothing. The cheap lower hooks are just that, Cheap! The Bullydogs were about 50 or so for all 4, but the piece of mind they give was worth the money.

those are really nice hooks but i haul alot of low things that i need low down anchor points.. so as nice as those are they wont hold down something only 1 foot in height unfortunately as i'm sure alot of people here do

also securing a motorcycle from that high on the bed rails doesnt give you alot of preload on the front shocks to keep it planted.. i have had bikes front tires slide and tip because of anchor points too high

My friend always bolts these loops on the bed rails of his trucks.

They're only on the rear of the bed because he usually has a toolbox in there.
Off topic but what's your lift setup?

That's my friend's truck. I think it's a 6" fabtech and leveling kit with 35's.

Older thread I know, I haven't taken any measurements, but has anyone tried stainless steel U bolts through the factory holes and huts on each side? Just a thought I had, I will have to check it out tomorrow.

Should work. You need to make sure the bolt diameter is smaller than the holes so it will go past the threads or drill out the old threads. And throw some washers in there to help stabilize everything.

OK, so here is what I am thinking. I might as well leave the factory hooks as well since they would just go to the scrap yard anyway. Maybe they will add some additional strength. However, ColdMonster, as you mentioned, I need to drill out the nuts to get the bolts to fit through. I had to get this diameter U-bolt to fit the factory hole width. My question is do I drill out the existing nuts or try to chisel them off from the back side? It could be a lot of drilling as I need a 5/16 hole, however, I am not sure how well the nuts are tack welded on. Advice welcome.

I've never looked behind ther but I would assume the bolts would snap in and arnt welded in. And that's a great idea with the factory tie down.

I've chiseled some of the nuts off on the backside and my advice to you would be to just put it together with nylon nuts. Don't bother knocking the old nuts off you just risk warping the sheet metal of the bed. Should be plenty secure, i like the setup btw.
