Default Battery light

I recently had a funny smell coming from my truck while driving down the road. My battery light came on and I pulled over too check and could smell what seemed like the alternator had a melt down. Nothing visible. I was close to several parts places and pulled in to have them check the battery/alternator. They said that the alternator was bad, replaced that. Light still on! Said bad battery, replaced that, light still on. WHAT should I check next?

check all connections... is the altenator charging now... if you got an altenator from autozone or some cheap reman alt you could possibly still have a bad altenator...

i dont know if these trucks will do it.. but i worked on a mitsubishi that had a bad amp gauge.... took me forever to track it down... it wasnt my car i was working on it for an person in my town.. i had the car for about 3 weeks... tracing wires.. finally found a tech tthat told me to check that

Actually got it from o'reilly's. They gave me the wrong one to start with ( a 6 groove pulley and I needed an 8 groove) I had installed it and it was still not showing a charge. I got the right one and installed it, that is when they said I had a bad battery. The battery was a 3 yr and had been in the truck since 06. I charged it and it died after about 5 miles so I'm sure that the truck running solely on the battery probably ruined the battery. I took the alt that they sold me ( the 6 groove) back and they tested it and it tested good. I bought the new alt with life time warranty.I have not checked the connections too make sure that they are plugged in all the way. I could only hope that would be the problem, although I would really feel like an idiot!

Were all the connections cleaned? Just a little corrosion will do it.

Thanks for all the help! Come to find out it was a 15 amp fuse in the fuse box that I guess went out when the alt. blew.

Congratts to you. I would be interested to know what that 15 amp use protected, what circuit did it control, it helps us help others.
