bad idea i think help me out
a buddy of mine has a 97 f150
well before he bought the truck with out knowing the guy before him took the egr tube completly off and plugged the hole(welded over it) where the manifold hooks up with the egr where the nut rusted off
what are the problems that happen when doing this
he wants to know if he needs to replace it or not
heres some things that happening he said
he says it has barley any hp
takes forever to get up speed
idles ruff and shakes the whole truck
jumps going up hills giving it gas like its not getting enough air flow
ect
does this need replaced right away

I have the exact same thing done to the egr on mine and my truck does none of those things. Ive been running without the egr for about 3 yrs and the only thing is the check engine light comes on.

Check engine lite? pull the codes and yes they will run just fine with a blocked egr the combustion temp will be higher with higher emisions and depending on location could be a problem at IM inspection. and if it maters it is also illegal under federal and most state laws.

Could have a plugged cat on the driverside. If welding the manifold made the truck run this way. Tube being broken or rusted could have been flowing enough to not show the signs before. The cat would have to be really plugged to cause a rough idle. Missing egr pipe shouldn't cause any running problems but a SES light. I would say the old owner isn't telling you everything or its just coincidence.
