Default Bad Head Gaskets?

Hey guys got a question for all of you. I have a 97' F150 with the 4.6 and it has 175k on it. Now I have been reading some of the post on here and I'm a little worried. People have been saying that if the truck has white smoke coming out of the tail pipes it has a blown head gasket because antifreeze is being burned. Now its 20-30 degrees here in PA and this truck has always started and ran fine with plenty of power. But my question is don't all vehicles have a whiteish color coming from the tail pipes when its cold out. Because my truck always did this in the winter but no smoke when its summer or spring. Sorry if I sound like a dumb*** but I was just curious. Oh its also not pure white just looks like as if you would walk outside and see your breath when its cold if that helps thanks guys sorry for the long post.

check the oil for white foam. Also check the resivor for an oil smell and rust. Head gaskets are known to just go bad on these trucks. Another tell tale is the heater goes from hot to cold, hot to cold. If you've noticed any of these it's time to break out the compression gauge.
