Default Backspace Question

Hi Guys,

Before someone flames me, this isn't another "what wheel/tire should I buy" thread. I've done the searches and still can't find the answer I'm looking for. I really just need someone to check my math/thinking on my set up.

I have a '98 F150 XLT 2X. It has 255/70/16's on it now on stock rims.

I'm going with the Nitto Terra Grapplers, 265/70/16 on a Cragar Soft 8 wheel, 5X135mm bolt pattern.

My question is this. I have 2 choices of wheel, 16X7 with a 4" backspace, or 16X8 with a 5" backspace. I originally wanted to go with the 8" wide rim, but with a 5" backspace I'm afraid it'll pull it too far into the wells and create rubbing problems. Plus I don't want it to flatten out the tire too much.

Am I correct? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

ok.. as long as your under 5.5 backspacing you wont rub those tires would look good on either rim honestly i dont believe you will have a problem with rubbing on the 8 inch wide but then again its all up to you

Thanks Beast, I appreciate the heads up.

I "want" to run the 8" rim just in case I feel like getting a bigger tire in the future, but wasn't sure if the backspace would cause me problems.
