Default Automatic Headlights

My 02' F150 super crew will blow a fuse when i have the headlight slector switch on auto. It doesnt do it right off. it may work for a few days befor blowing and it doesnt blow any fuses when the selector switch is turned to the on position.

Any ideas as where to start? Obviously it has a short somewhere. could the sensor be bad? Where is the sensor located so I can check it and the wiring going to it.

That switch assembly has a number of electronic components in it (transistors, diodes, etc). Any failure in this module could give you the shorting problems. Used replacement is a good, cheap start before chasing ghosts.

My Crown Vic smells like burning electronics and the dash lights flicker if I have the auto light cut off function on. I just cut that function off since I don't feel like buying and installing a new switch. So far, so good, no more electronic burning smell.
I agree with the other guys, it is likely the light switch assembly.
