My nephew is looking at a 97 2 wheel drive with the 4.6L and an automatic. The owner says the truck slips in overdrive but does fine otherwise. Can anyone give me any tips on how serious this is, are there any simple possibilities or is this a transmission rebuild?

Tranny rebuild is in the future probably which is over $2000 in most cases for a full rebuild, a junkyard replacement is less but a risk. The problem can be hidden with "thicker" type trans fluids, but mechanical problems are still only fixed with mechanical solutions. I'd pass unless its cheap enough to do the work and be ahead on it. My 2 cents.
