Yes, very common problem with these housings. To get brighter lights, you need to replace them with some better housings. Nothing you will do to them will make them better.

Go with the a clear lens next time. Those "halo projection" lens are trash in this truck. The wiring that comes with the light often goes bad in about a year and then this truck is from the 90s and you're putting on LED projection light. Not to be a stickler but i think they look dumb. The truck looks like a cheap cyborg more than anything. The clear lenses look real nice you can get them in Chrome or black or even a mix of the two they look upgraded from Stock and then whatever lights you put in there they will work really well and if you upgrade the headlight bulbs to brighter, the brighter LED bulb they look sharp and they have thier own little halo glow going. I've had my clear set for probably 5 years and I am going to take them off for the first time to get the yellow gunks off the lens. So far they have shined up like new real easy

PLEASE don't do this! Incorrect bulbs (LED's, HID's), while brighter, also scatter light and can dazzle oncoming drivers, as the reflectors are precisely designed and made for the location and position of the halogen filament.

THIS ARTICLE is specifically calling out HID retrofit kits, but applies to LED bulbs as well.

I have black Harley/Lightning set on my truck LIKE THESE, and the beam pattern and brightness are very good.

The base of the LED head lap for the Philips 9004 you can unscrew the base that slots into the headlamp and you can change the LED pattern how ever you want. I set mine that the 2 lowbeam LEDs shine down in a cover pattern and the hibeam focuse to upper center. It has multiple adjustment settings aftermarket lights.

That looks like an improvement on the halogen capsules, but I still don't see how they can match the alignment of a halogen filament. I'll have to look into them further. Thanks for posting the info.
