I did this a few times and rcruz3568's way is the way I went. Remove the intake plenum and as his picture shows ya kinda gotta bring the front higher with that angle to get it out. Used a strap hooked to the exhaust manifolds one in front other in back. Only other option I have seen is remove whole front clip or cab. And for the others swapping different motors. I tried putting a 4.6 into a 5.4 but the 4.6 was standard vs the 5.4 auto. Could not get the right computer to run both. So if yer gonna change things make sure the computer will run everything motor and tranny or switch motor tranny and comp together then should be fine.

U got torque converter all the way pushed in? And are the bolts lined up with the flywheel? If so it should all go right together

Make sure your not pinching the harness at the top of the bell housing and your engine.

I have done 3 of these and the best way is to lift the cab.

When I did my 5.4 swap I loosened the trans cross member to help line up the engine with the motor mounts. I swapped a 99 5.4 for my 97 5.4, Still isn't perfect as I can't quite figure out the vacuum lines. I also haven't spent enough time trying but I really need to..

Lol I hate doing it either way. But it sure saves alot of money! I think the hardest thing on them Is the transfer case and transmission. If ur doing it from the ground it's a pain in the azz! Transfer case has to go up first then the trans comes up. Unless u remove the cross member for the torsion bars. But still it's a pain working on these trucks. Everything fits so tight. Ford def. did not leave enough room to work with lol.
