Default alternator mod

does anyone know if its a good idea to mod your alternator? my truck lights have been dimming a lot and a god alternator is like $400.

The smarter idea would be the replacement, unless you REALLY know what you're doing in there.

I'm not sure what you define as a "good" alternator but check out RockAuto or
amazon amazon

Since I don't know what year or engine you have I chose my year and engine (2003 5.4)

I have a 2003 4.6l v8, what's the normal ampage of a stock alternator?

One of the others may be able to answer that but you can go with a 130 amp alternator.

There was a post here a few weeks back talking about rebuilding the alternator. Around $100 for all the parts.

I think I saw that but is rebuilding it worth it? I heard that you could fry it a lot faster if you rebuild it.

What OhioLariat (at least I think it was him) did is exactly what they do in the reman process most of the time. As for is it worth it I can't answer as I've never rebuilt one.
