Driving down the road today and the truck stalled but no battery light came on... But I just got back from the local walgreens and I noticed my lights going dim, then the battery light popped on and I accelerated a bit and it turned off. When i got to walgreens i popped the hood to check and see if the belt was loose and its tighter than a button no play at all. Then on the way home, it turned on and wouldn't turn off........ I got home and parked it.

So Do you think my alternator is going? Or do I need to replace the battery...

Also what is the stock amperage for the 4.2l motors?

 

Take it to a local auto place if you don't have a tester and have them test both the alternator output and battery.

 

Sounds like your alternator is dying. rec replacing it. had a car pass both tests but when you idle it would kill the car. let your truck idle and put a multimeter on the battery. you should have 12.75-14.2 volts if not your alt. is bad.

 

i just had to replace my alt this weekend... that is just about what was happening to mine.

 

i just replaced mine thursday lol and it was doing the same thing

 

I got the new alt in and bought a new battery too...... But the battery light wont go out..... Im going back up to oreillys and seeing if the alt is bad.... Any other ideas?
