It's a little tough to shift from neutral into first gear or reverse. Usually moving them around in the other gears makes it easier. What's this a sign of, and what should I do about it?

I am not sure if this tranny uses a low/reverse synchronizer. If it does that is the most likely culprit in my opinion. Other possibilities are a worn bushing/bearing on the low/reverse shaft. Make sure your oil level is full, use only the synthetic oil weight (i.e. 50W Synthetic) they recommend, and if it is over 100,000 miles I would think of changing the oil in the tranny.

my 1st gear used to take an arm and a leg to shift , but I figured that's because it never got used, now that I have the truck it just slides into place
