Default all a sudden noticed gas smell

Today I went an got gas. Ever since I noticed gas fumes when the truck was parked under the bed. I did notice that there was a hose that came down from the bed rail that comes across the bed an was hanging down by the rear end. Does anyone know if that hose is suppose to go to the tank or evap canister. Or what it might be. Its hard 4 me to get under there bc I recently had a double lung transplant an I'm not back to 100% strength wise yet. So any help would be greatly appeariated!!!

Seeing that you're from West Virginia I can assume the truck is too? Did you ever have the gas tank straps replaced under the recall?

If not I'd start by calling Ford with your VIN handy and asking them if your truck is covered under the recall. Tell them you smell gas when you drop it off.

Otherwise I'd be looking at the filler neck for leaks or rust on the tank where it might be coming from. Good luck!

I'm having a similar issue but I smell gas fuses inside the cab of screw when i fill up the tank full. I have to lower the window and after a few minutes driving it goes away. After that I don't smell it anymore until I fill up again. The truck has 162k. I don't see any visual leaks. I'm trying to inspect the rubber hoses on top of the tank. I'm just wondering how the fumes are getting inside the cab. I don't smell it outside.

Well I claimed under it an didn't see any hoses cracked or broken. The next morning I didn't smell any fumes. The cap seems kinda lose like its not sealing very well. I took it off an put it back on an has been fine ever since. So I'm gonna replace the cap. Cheap plus I need a locking one because had half tank stolen 2 woks ago. I still wannA find out where the hose that goes to the top of the underneath the bed rail that comes across the bed. Where the other end is suppose to go. Its hooked where it goes to the bottom of the bed but the other end is hanging down.

Yea the hoses "two" (filler and overflow) can rot and crack at the filler neck hose connection from what I've heard. However, I have a 98 w/over 300k miles and back in 05 I had to replace the overflow hardline, -developed rust holes to the point once it was full, fuel would slosh out a bit. So, yea, that fix was necessary. You can purchase purchase a filler neck and hose kit. I've seen them on eBay in the past for a great price. Regularly, they're between 60-80 bucks tho.

I lifted the bed about 8 inches on the filler neck area to inspect the hoses. I can see they are old and could use replacement. I didn't saw any cracks or holes anywhere in the hoses. I used a mirror to look on top of the tank and I don't see fuel stains anywhere. It could the one of the hoses on the tank. I guess if I fill it way up until it can't take any more fuel I might see the leak. The thing is that when I'm outside filling the tank I don't get the strong gas smell. It is inside the cab only. like when I'm pumping gas the fumes are leaking into the cab. If i replace the filler neck I will have to find it online because the dealer want about $278 for it.

If you need new tubes take your old ones off and go to napa, they'll cut what you need for less than $20. My brother works at ford and said there is no real difference.

$278 that's harassment, - or in serious need of some!

I just seen them, and thank jackedup, I believe I need new hoses and didn't think of Napa.

Now where did I see them. Ah crap, I'll track some down.
